The Hiking Season: Spring and Autumn

The optimal window for Andros is strictly April to June and late September to October. In spring, the waterfalls at Pithara and the valleys of Korthi are lush and vibrant. The climate is mild, perfect for navigating the extensive stone-paved footpaths. Summer (July-August) can be challenging; Andros sits directly in the path of the Northern winds, and the Chora can be excessively windy, while the interior heat makes hiking strenuous.

The Athenian Connection

Because Andros is only a two-hour ferry ride from the port of Rafina, it serves as a weekend retreat for Athenians. Consequently, the island fills up on weekends year-round, but especially in summer. For a quieter experience, aim for mid-week travel.
